So I went to my first crop last night. It was awesome. Ok well almost. Lol. My Princess attended with me (too early to be apart!) and she was less than happy for the evening. But none-the-less I did learn a bit more about the world of scrapbooking.
I'm not an avid scrapbooker (or is it scrapper?) by any stretch of the imagination. I do however like to throw photos together in a hodge-podge manner and call it a scrapbook. Last night my eyes were opened to what scrapbooks can really look like in all their glory. I mean, until last night I didn't have any methods to my madness. I hardly paid any attention to the colors in my background paper. I would select papers almost randomly and throw some pictures on and call it a page. Last night I learned how to use a color wheel to select colors to complement one another, or even contrast to make a page pop. Wow. Such a simple concept that makes such a huge difference! I wish Princess was cooperating a bit more so I could apply my new-found knowledge to my 6"x6" book.
Beyond the use of the color wheel, my eyes were also opened to all of the nifty toys which make scrapbooking easy and professional looking. I have a straight paper cutter myself, but Hazel has the coolest wavy paper cutters. Such a simple tool that can make such a big difference constructing a page. They even have the neatest little tools for cutting photos and mats into cute shapes which make my rectangular photos look like such a bore!
I even met a new person, Maria, from Spain. I love people from other countries! (ok so she moved here when she was 5, but still, she speaks Spanish!) She was super nice and is working on such a beautiful book of her grandmother's 100th birthday.
Hopefully I can go next Friday as well and actually get some more work done! I'm so excited and happy to be able to use Hazel's wonderful tools to make my little book really nice. I also think I created a monster. I can't stop imagining how beautiful my pages will look!
